it interestingly left the center decca mic separate, which might be an absolute blessing(a mono but distant signal)

It is. Each time it's impressive but I wasn't in a big studio for this one and with no reverb, you can hear how they have a unique sound, how precise they are. no joke, I first thought it was samples because that section was TOO clean XD thinking, no way was that just played that cleanly - rewind -...

samy recorded an oboe part then doubled it and phase switched it.

so there's a hidden oboe that only a computer could recognize lol

you should experiment with different string articulations. Sul Tasto for instance, has a much darker tone. Ofcourse actual string ranges would help that too... else it just sounds a bit fatiguing the end had me like "I wear my sunnnn glasses at night" I feel like the dynamic range on the strings is ...
