Re: Hans Zimmer - Dark Phoenix - Gap

Definitely not one of the greatest tracks I've heard overall... has it's strange parts. But I love the main "chord sequence" theme* in the track that re-appears in variations throughout that track (too many variations for me, sometimes a bit messy IMO - and everything from 2:22 to 2:44 just sounds s...

Re: Game of Thrones

You're certainly not alone. I really don't like this score and also heard the same from several others - composers mind you. I only watched season one and currently stuck at the first 4 episodes of season two (lost one of the discs - damn haha) and the music sometimes didn't only bore but annoy me. ...

Re: Immortal Desires

Thanks for the feedback. Yea, I'm not really focused on traditional orchestral balance. I was using Hollywood Strings here, I started the track before I had CSS. I don't like their dynamic range, as you said it sounds a bit like volume control rather than dynamics, but I think I could've done a bett...

Immortal Desires

https://soundcloud.com/lionel-schmitt-2/immortal-desires I'm very curious about feedback on this one. A pretty classical piece with choir and strings with a modern twist, meant to symbolize an inner conflict... perhaps do you choose the "salvation" but restrictions of religion, or the freedom but "...

Re: Thomas Bergersen - American Dream (40 Minutes Symphony)

o.O how much classical music have you heard? My long time obsession was requiems - because they invoke every emotion they can think of that relates to death... And Verdi(who I just mentioned) was an opera writer - who was extremely used to writing sad, or angry pieces - because he wrote for theatre...

Thomas Bergersen - Lillian's Theme

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=up37bjs6PmA One of my favorite themes. I think it's an older Thomas Bergersen track, although released in 2010 and a bit rough around the edges, but the theme really impresses me (@0:53 onwards). Such expansive themes are quite rare, at least in the last years. Not s...

Re: Erich Wolfgang Korngold - Marietta's song

Loved the proms intro music! Distracting violinist ;) ... otherwise it passed me somehow... not sure any learning will change that perception and open the "gate". Well, I'll deeply enjoy Debussy or Ravel any time instead. So I'm at least not fully excluded from the classical world haha. And because ...

Re: Thomas Bergersen - American Dream (40 Minutes Symphony)

Of course there are negative and objectively unhealthy emotions. But since we were talking about music (I also referenced Thomas Bergersen's piece "Sun" for a different style with different emotions than the classical which will hardly cause anger or fear) I wasn't really taking those into considera...

Re: Thomas Bergersen - American Dream (40 Minutes Symphony)

Mr Doyle's Haute Cuisine hangs a little heavy on my right ear and the mid to low parts are bit static IMO... not sure why. Guess I should keep listening with laptop speakers as I did the first time haha... But certainly still well done (heard much better string writing). The raw materials example is...

Re: Thomas Bergersen - American Dream (40 Minutes Symphony)

I was thinking that Mr DingDong is referring to his Volume One and other similar tracks, which are complex and showcase a lot of orchestration skills. Those obviously aren't very emotional mostly... No idea what that Zimmer example provided is, but it just sounds odd to me. Very odd... Patrick Doyle...

Re: Thomas Bergersen - American Dream (40 Minutes Symphony)

Well, I think he is more interested in emotion in music rather than musical or harmonical interest. Well, he could ad so much to that emotion, if he'd allow himself outside of the "pop-chords, no more than one chord/bar" -routine. That's the way I see it. He often takes the same route as Verta and ...
