Metropolis Ark 4

Post by DarkestShadow » Thu 6 Dec 2018 15:30

I think this sounds very interesting! Fluid and realistic. Crisp and focused.

Could be great for both classical orchestral writing and more epic stuff...

not so much

seems more like the Bernard herman/First chair for the ark stuff

http://www.orchestraltools.com/resource ... _Ark_4.pdf

mostly weird combinations, which I like - but they aren't solo.

so if you've always wanted muted bass trombone and contrabass clarinet duct taped together - now's your chance!

holy shit lmao, sabotaged

welp I guess that's 20 minutes down the drain.

my friend was over IRL, asking me how to get his voice sounding better for his stream, was showing him how to apply VSTs, and I literally have an amp simulator(one of the lepou's I think?) on my microphone just to show him where the VST would go

sorry about that... ill just pretend I was trying to be kylo ren

I plan on buying 1 and 2 today if i can get to the bank

for someone like you:
ark 1 is an "epic" library. Sometimes this is large ensembles - but mainly actually due to the dynamics.

iirc its dynamics are literally mf-fff

that said, there is no way to reproduce that sound outside of actually recording it.

so 3 bass bone doesn't seem too crazy but they won't play softly.

ark 3 on the other hand is much softer(that's the idea) so has much softer dynamics with these abnormally large ensembles...

from me to you- makes mocking Zimmer easier, but I honestly think you as an orchestrator could have some fun.

ark 1 and 2 brass sections look like this :

4 trumpet
3 bass trumpet
9 horns
3 horns
3 bass trombone
3 cimbassi
3 tuba
3 euphoniums
3 Wagner tuba(I think?)

and using 3 euphoniums instead of 3 trombones would certainly give a passage a different flavor

and all of them together seem other worldly.

plus you'd have a monstrous low wind section XD

btw, first walkthrough

I think this is going to be great, mainly because of the string section layering

problem with ark 3 quintet is that it doesn't have long notes

I don’t have any of the Ark series (Ark 1 always seemed cool to have but the price was always a bit more than I would spend on such a library) but I’m finally listening to this Ark 4 and I’m really liking some of what I’m hearing...like a LOT. Sadly, it’ll probably be a year before I get my hands on it. Of course I’m banking on it being on sale again, which may not be a sure thing.

these weeks will be rough

I picked up orchestral grands and osr, got some ideas, and I will be preordering A4.

starting the new job tomorrow while still working the other one till the end of the year

so January might be a little more forgiving on time(depending on how difficult academy is)

By the way, has anyone noticed that on the still shot of the second YouTube video there is a a snare drum on the microphone stand instead of a microphone! Probably there is a microphone inside. Or they keep a snare drum there with snare on to get more presence to the string attacks? Anyway, I am interested in case anyone happens to know what kind of recording technique that is ... so far, I only learned the bottle from HZ libraries, ha ha!
@Kyle: You are buying to much stuff! Dude, you say you do that as a hobby and yet you buy way more than I do (earning money with composing and producing music). Make more music and buy less! ;-)
Especially this one! What do you hope to gain from it? Yes, you could probably make some passages a little more believable with VIs than without this library. But why would that be so important to you? I have the feeling you have switched hobbies from actually being creative in your spare time and doing some music to caring about some fine details and spending a whole lot of money on VIs (which is obviously addictive!).
No hobby person or anyone early in his career is advised well with MA4! All you need is one or two versions of each orchestra instrument or maybe MA1, in case you are a trailer composer and don't happen to need woodwinds! ;-)
