Trevor Jones, how we miss you

Post by Farkle » Tue 24 Apr 2018 12:58

He had a brief, but shining spot in film music, during the 80's high fantasy era. Loved his work on The Dark Crystal, and then did a TV mini-series, called Merlin.

He was also one of the composers for Last of the Mohicans, which is a lovely score... I think he kind of gently got sidelined as the more hybrid sound took off. But, man, could he compose! :)

My favorite soundtrack from him, for a movie I also love.

A half of this Farkle Friday is dedicated to Dark Crystal:

I enjoyed it a lot with a Glenlivet speyside scotch. (You'll soon discover my obsession: "which drink accompanies this music the best?")

The League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen from 2003 (which was slated by critics and Sean Connery, but I really enjoyed it) is the last film with a Trevor Jones score I saw.

I don't think it sounds dated or unfashionable at all. It reminds me of the Mummy films that Silvestri did. And perhaps one or two of the superhero movies. And the clarity of live orchestra without layers of synthy mush gives it extra energy, I think.
