How to create a dumbing down

Post by Strickland » Tue 15 May 2018 14:10

In order to stifle any rebellion in advance, it should not be there take in a violent manner. Simply create a collective packaging so powerful that the very idea of revolt even more come to the minds of men. The ideal would formatting individuals from birth limitingtheir innate biological ability.
Then we continue the packaging drastically reducing education to bring it to a form of integration. An uneducated person has a limited horizon thoughts and his thought is merely mediocre concerns, the less it may rebel. Must ensure that access to knowledge is becoming increasingly difficult and elitist. The gap between the people and the science, the information for the general public is anesthetized any subversive content. Especially not philosophy. Again, we must use persuasion and not direct violence is massively broadcast via television, information and entertainment always flattering emotional and instinctive. We occupy the minds with what is futile and fun. It is good in a ceaseless chatter and music to prevent the mind from thinking.
They will lay their sexuality at the forefront of human interests. As a social tranquilizer, there is nothing better. In general, we will make sure to banish the seriousness of life, to deride everything that has a high value, maintain a constant glorification of lightness, so that the euphoria of advertising become the standart human happiness and freedom model.

It's all based on how modern society invites you to "discharge" your pulsions instead of "sublimating" them, so in the end you're kind of weakened and obedient. Carfantan is not the only one to use these freudian devices to make sense out of what's happening, we can also quote Stiegler about advertisement (in La démocratie contre la télécratie) and

... Peter Sloterdijk, who wrote an amazing book comparing our society to roman circus, on this freudian basis. A french translation of the german original is available online.

The cool thing about it is that it also explains why at a large scale music is so much "booming" and "romping" today (trailer music, but not only that): because it's literally aiming to discharge you, like a low-level katharsis. (Not the aristotlean one, which aims sadness and pity.)

"Du train où nous allons, nous aurons, avant la fin du siècle, une musique très sommaire, barbare, qui associera une mélodie rudimentaire à des rythmes brutalement scandés. Cela conviendra à merveille aux oreilles atrophiées des mélomanes de l'an 2000 !" Arthur HONEGGER, en 1951, in Ecrits, pp. 714-715.

Perfect. The fact he predicted that half a century ago is incredible.

Honegger has kind of an "elitist" taste (but not as elitist as Boulez), but it's a very fruitful reading. We learn a lot with demanding people.

By "weakened and obedient" I meant something like "being so emptied even your will is emptied". Like when you jerk off. Our society is a massively jerking-off-incitative one, and it makes us kind of too lazy to revolt. That's the whole point, put in simple terms :-)
